Mattress protectors for babies and juniors

You might have heard a mattress protector referred to as a mattress cover or protective pad – which makes sense, but the term "mattress protector" is the most accurate. So, what exactly is a mattress protector? It is a very thin type of mattress (max. 1 cm) placed on top of the bed's mattress or topper. The purpose of a mattress protector is to shield the bed's other mattresses from moisture, bacteria, and dirt, while also providing insulation against drafts and cold from below. Mattress protectors in sizes 36x90 cm, 70x140 cm, 60x120 cm, and 70x160 cm fit junior beds, baby beds, and strollers. Most mattress protectors are equipped with elastic straps in all four corners, which secure the protector to the topper, keeping it flat and neat on the bed without bunching up under the sheet.

A healthy and clean sleeping environment

Using a mattress protector not only optimizes the comfort of the bed but also protects the topper from unnecessary dirt, sweat, and bacteria. Unlike a topper, a mattress protector is easy to maintain, partly because of its size and also because it is machine washable. In our selection, you will also find mattress protectors that can be washed at high temperatures – ideal if you suffer from allergies. All mattress protectors share the advantage of being washable to remove dust mites, dirt, and bacteria – contributing to a much healthier sleeping environment compared to when the body's waste materials accumulate directly in the topper, which cannot be thoroughly cleaned.

Choosing the right size mattress protector

When selecting a mattress protector, it is essential to choose one that matches the size of the bed's other mattresses. If you buy a mattress protector that is too small or too large, the elastic straps won't fit properly over the topper's corners. A poorly fitting mattress protector may become more of a nuisance than a benefit, as it risks shifting or bunching up under the sheet – which is obviously not comfortable to sleep on.

Take good care of your mattress

To extend the lifespan of your mattress, we recommend always using a mattress protector – regardless of whether you have an integrated topper in your foam mattress or a loose one. A mattress protector acts as a protective layer for your foam mattress, and since it can be easily and frequently washed at high temperatures, it protects the mattress much more than you might expect. While sleeping, your body naturally releases moisture and waste materials, which over time can degrade your foam mattress – with a mattress protector, you can minimize this and enjoy your bed for many years to come.
