The Mattress GuideChoosing a new mattress, whether for a brand new bed or to renew, optimise or replace your current mattress, can be a significant decision. What exactly are your needs?Which is the best mattress? The question sounds simple but can actually cause a lot of confusion and raise many questions. This short and simple guide will take you through some of the key questions you should ask yourself when looking for a new mattress. Contents Correct sleeping positionThe foundation for optimal sleep and a comfortable sleeping environment is the right mattress. The mattress should ensure the correct sleeping position, so your body, especially your back and neck, do not get strained. To achieve the best possible sleeping position, you need a mattress that provides support where necessary and allows the rest of your body to 'sink' into it. This ensures your spine remains as straight as possible. Foam mattressesFoam mattresses offer a tranquil bed that cradles, adapts, and supports. These mattresses can be constructed in various ways due to the many different types of foam available. The composition of the foam mattress is crucial as it creates the best mattress and an optimal sleeping environment.See our selection of high-quality mattresses hereFoam mattresses are typically manufactured with an integrated mattress topper, so you usually don't need to worry about adding one to your bed. It's important to use a mattress protector to guard the mattress against moisture, such as sweat. This way, you always achieve the most hygienic sleeping environment, as a mattress protector can be removed and washed in the machine just like your other bed linen. We recommend that you always use a mattress protector as the next top layer in your bed (just below your sheet), regardless of which mattress, mattress topper, or bed you own. It is the best for your mattress and the most hygienic option for you. Our recommendation is a mattress protector in cotton or silk, as this allows you to get the most out of your mattress. This type of foam can therefore be firm, medium or even soft, depending on the composition of the two materials.Cold foam is used for for example ordinary mattresses, folding mattresses and mattress toppers. Typically, this type of foam is used as one of several types of foam in a mattress. Memory foamThis type of foam is gaining a good hold in the Danish market. And that is completely understandable. Much research has been conducted into how to create a good mattress that meets many needs.Memory foam is a type of foam that conforms to your body. It therefore creates a stable and calm basis for your sleep. Many people find that the ailments that have bothered them for years disappear after they switch to a memory foam mattress. Especially people who suffer from muscle or joint pain find relief with this type of foam mattress. Memory foam absorbs some of your body heat and uses this heat to relieve the pressure points created by your body. You will therefore feel enveloped by the mattress, and your muscles will find it easier to relax, often resulting in a more peaceful sleep. Cover (bolster)A lot of thought is usually given to the cover, as this enhances breathability and keeps the mattress dry. This is important for hygiene reasons and greatly extends the lifespan of the mattress. The typical materials used in covers are polyester, bamboo, mesh, and cotton.Read the mattress specifications, which usually detail the composition and the benefits added to the mattress. We do not recommend washing the mattress cover but simply using a mattress protector. With regular washing of the mattress protector and other bed linen, this should not be necessary. Latex provides progressive comfort, meaning the mattress does not collapse like foam. You'll experience exceptional support, with the mattress adapting its firmness to your weight and body. Latex is easily zoned, with very small holes in the core regulating each zone. These holes also increase breathability by allowing excess heat to escape. Talalay latexThe Talalay process is a unique production method for creating the highest quality latex mattresses. It ensures the correct distribution of air and rubber material, providing the highest mattress quality. Talalay can be combined with natural latex, synthetic latex, or a blend of both.Natural latexNatural latex is 100% natural, derived from the extract of the rubber tree. The tree grows in various tropical regions but originally comes from the Amazon. Natural latex is more flexible than regular latex or foam. Therefore, mattresses or mattress toppers made with natural latex will be of exceptionally high quality and often have a longer lifespan.Synthetic latexWith the naked eye, you cannot tell the difference. Latex mattresses are often combined with the type of latex that makes the most sense when paired with materials like foam or springs. Thus, you cannot say that synthetic latex is worse for the body or has lower comfort, as it offers the same significant advantages and ergonomic effects as other latex types. Foam mattresses are typically recommended for children due to their developmental needs during sleep. A foam mattress does not impact the child but will simply yield and support where the child rests. Moreover, the best foundation is created in a foam mattress, as children often need a calm sleeping environment. A mattress topper is not usually added to children's mattresses, as it is typically built into the mattress. Children do not need much of a 'mattress topper', as their weight and pressure are not as high, so it is incorporated into the mattress as an upper foam layer. |
