Hypoallergenic duvets

House dust mites commonly inhabit duvets, often causing issues for allergy sufferers. In both fibre and silk duvets, house dust mites cannot thrive, making these duvets particularly appealing to allergy sufferers.

Silk duvets

Silk is a natural protein fibre and an antibacterial material, ensuring a hygienic and comfortable sleeping environment. If you tend to overheat at night, a silk duvet could be ideal for you. It regulates temperature and absorbs sweat and moisture, removing them from the surface. This ensures you won't wake up sweaty in the middle of the night, allowing you to sleep dry and soundly. The properties of a silk duvet make it an excellent choice as an allergy-friendly junior duvet.

You can find out more about the silk duvet in this guide.

Fibre duvets

One of the many advantages of a fibre duvet is that it is washable, enduring high-temperature washes, a necessity for those with allergies. The duvet is durable, maintaining its softness even with frequent washing.
A fibre duvet is particularly appealing for families with children due to its suitability for regular cleaning. When children have been outside jumping in puddles or playing in the sand, they often bring a bit of grime indoors. This dirt easily transfers to their duvets and pillows, so it's a great idea to use a duvet that can be washed and maintained easily, ensuring good hygiene through frequent washing.
Another perfect place for a fibre duvet is in a holiday cottage. Here, you often have various guests staying, and it's convenient if duvets and pillows can be machine washed, making them clean and ready for the next group of visitors.

Caring for your hypoallergenic duvets

Washing hypoallergenic duvets varies, and regardless of the type, we recommend reading the washing instructions beforehand to ensure the correct care for your duvet.
You can find our guide to maintaining duvets here.

Generally, most duvets can be washed at 60 degrees - ideally in a machine with a capacity of at least 7 kg. Once your allergy duvet is washed, it's crucial to dry it thoroughly to prevent dampness. The most effective method is to place the hypoallergenic duvet in the tumble dryer with 2-4 tennis balls. The balls help to evenly distribute the filling within the duvet. Additionally, we suggest taking the duvet out and giving it a good shake periodically - preferably horizontally.

We aim to provide a hypoallergenic duvet option for everyone. That's why our hypoallergenic duvets are available in various sizes. Hypoallergenic duvets

Hypoallergenic duvets extend beyond the classic fibre or silk options. The down duvets can also be classified as hypoallergenic, thanks to the tightly woven bolster that prevents house dust mites from penetrating.
To find the ideal duvet, we have created a guide to assist you. You can access it here.
Down is the most commonly used filling, offering excellent insulation to keep you warm while allowing your body to breathe. Down is incredibly soft and feather-light, with the finest down coming from fully matured geese and ducks. When discussing down duvets, you'll discover four different types at Home-Tex.com:

Goose down duvet

Goose down is the most popular type of down in Danish duvets. With a goose down duvet, you are assured of a light and breathable duvet that promotes a restful and comfortable sleep. The higher the tog rating, the better the down's insulating ability. We recommend choosing at least a duvet with a tog rating of 10.

Eiderdown duvet

Eiderdown is the most exquisite type of down, ensuring a duvet of the highest quality. The down is hand-harvested in Iceland, respecting natural conditions, which is reflected in its price.

Muscovy down duvet

A muscovy down duvet is somewhat similar to the eiderdown duvet and is always of high quality. These duvets are filled with fine, soft, and incredibly light down.

Duck down duvet

Duck down duvets offer the classic fluffy feel with a good weight. They have a lower tog rating than the other down duvets mentioned, requiring more down to achieve optimal warmth.

If you're interested in learning more about the various tog ratings of duvets, we have prepared a guide for you.

NOMITE and OEKO-TEX certifications

The NOMITE certification guarantees that our down products do not contain house dust mites due to the extremely dense weave of the bolster. It is often the house dust mite that is the real problem for those with allergies, rather than down or feathers, contrary to popular belief. As an allergy sufferer, you can confidently purchase a NOMITE certified duvet.

OEKO-TEX is the world's leading health certification, ensuring you receive products of the highest health quality that are safe for consumers. This means the products are of such high quality that they are ideal as hypoallergenic junior duvets. In essence, OEKO-TEX represents consumer trust in textiles.
