What is a mattress protector?

Mattress protectors can perhaps best be described as a kind of underlay. They are very thin (max. 1 cm.), positioned between the bed's mattress topper and the sheet. Most mattress protectors have elastics in all four corners, designed to stretch over the mattress topper. These elastics ensure the mattress protector remains in place, even if you move around while sleeping. When the mattress protector is placed on the bed's mattress topper, as usual, the sheet is stretched over the bed.
