Down detergent for duvets and pillows

Washing down duvets and pillows:

All down products can be washed at 60 degrees in a regular washing machine. After washing, ensure the duvet or pillow is thoroughly dried in a tumble dryer with 2-3 tennis balls included. The tennis balls help to release and open up any clumped down during the drying process. We recommend washing your pillow 1-2 times annually, and your duvet once a year when switching between a summer duvet and a winter duvet.

Washing down products for allergy sufferers:

Follow the same method as described, but more frequently to ensure your bed remains free from house dust mites. The European Down and Feather Association (EDFA) suggests washing duvets 4 times a year and pillows 12 times a year.

Ongoing maintenance:

With a few handy tips, you can help prolong the life of your duvet.

• When you wake up in the morning, there is still moisture in the duvet/pillow. Let them "air out" before placing the bedspread on

• Regularly air your duvet and pillow - avoid vacuuming or beating them

• Wash the duvet (or 2 pillows) alone in a washing machine with at least a 5 kg, preferably 7 kg capacity

• For spot cleaning, use a tightly wrung sponge

• Utilise one of the down detergents available, e.g. Quilts of Denmark's specially developed "DOWN DETERGENT" Always use a detergent without enzymes.

• Wash on a gentle cycle at 60°C or a similar setting with a high water level and low drum rotation.

• Spin the duvet/pillow after washing. Select the gentlest spin

• Tumble dry only. The temperature should be approx. 60-80°C. Place a couple of tennis balls in the dryer with the duvet/pillow. The balls ensure the filling remains in motion during drying, enhancing drying efficiency.

• Drying time should be at least 3-5 hours, depending on the dryer. It is important that the duvet/pillow are dried thoroughly - including the delicate down inside.
